Lieutenant Colonel Ed Burroughs enlisted in the Army in February of 1969. After graduating from Infantry Basic Training at Ft. Benning Georgia and Infantry AIT at Ft. McClellan Alabama he attended the NCO Leadership Course at Ft. Benning. He was accepted into the OCS program and graduated from the 55 Company class 22-70 in October 1970 and was branched Armor. This was followed by Armor Officer Course at Ft. Knox, Motor Platoon Leader Course and Pathfinders Course at Ft. Benning. His first overseas assignment was with the 2nd ACR in Bindlach Germany as a Tank Platoon Leader, Company XO, Squadron Support Platoon, PBO and S-4. His first state side assignment was with the 2/17 Squadron, 101 Airborne at Ft. Campbell KY as the Squadron Motor Office and Troop Commander. He then attended the Armor Advance Course at Ft. Knox and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville 1979. After a fast year as the 2nd Infantry Division G-4 Maintenance Office in Korea, Ed became the HHC Commander 4-40 Armor and 3rd Brigade S-4, 4th Infantry at Ft. Carson with a short assignment as a Mobil Team Leader to North Yemen. By 1983 he returned to Germany as the 8th Division G-4 Plans and Operation Officer in Bad Krueznach, this was followed as the Executive Office for 5-77 Armor. He was then assigned to Ft. Gordon as the Signal School Chief of Combat Arms Department. In 1988 he became the Deputy Brigade Commander 15th Signal Brigade. His last duty assignment was as the Army Material Command, Logistical Assistance Officer to the 1St Infantry Division. He deployed with the division to Desert Storm with his team of 28 civilian LAR’S and contractors. Upon retirement in 1992, he became the Senior Army Instructor (JROTC) at Lyman Ward Military in Camp Hill AL. He is now the Transportation Manager for Aflac in Columbus GA.
Military education includes; Airborne School, NCO Leadership Course, Motor Platoon Leader Course, Pathfinder Course, Armor Basic and Advance Courses and Command and General Staff College.
Military awards includes; Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon Overseas Service Ribbon (3 OLC), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) and Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait). Badges include Airborne and Pathfinder. He also earned the German Shooters and Airborne Badges.
