Personal History: LTC (Ret) William (No Sir! I said 2nd Squad) Brown
I gained my commissioned through OCS Class 2-57. We began on September 10, 1956 with 180 candidates. Along the way, we received an additional 30 guys who were recycled for various reasons. When we graduated, we had 88 in our class. Up to that time, our attrition rate was the highest in recent memory. Attendance and completion of OCS was the final event in a series of 4 defining moments in my life; the first being when I joined the military service initially; the second was when I volunteered for Airborne duty; and the third when I volunteered for Special Forces duty. I correlate what little success I have attained with those values and lessons I learned in the military and, specifically, in OCS.
